Prime Minister slams "tampering with Lebanon's natural heritage" after Jeita Grotto incident

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned what he described as “tampering with Lebanon’s natural wealth” in response to the recent incident at the Jeita Grotto.

In a post on X, Salam confirmed that the Tourism Ministry had not granted any written authorization for the activity in question and that the Lebanese Caving Club had not been consulted.

He announced that he has requested a full investigation by the relevant authorities to hold accountable anyone found to have violated legal procedures or the terms of the contract signed with the ministry.

The prime minister also urged all concerned parties to strictly adhere to the directive he issued in September, which requires all public administrations, institutions, municipalities, and relevant agencies to comply with laws governing the use of public land—both terrestrial and maritime—as well as archaeological, touristic, and official sites.
