Senior officials: Lebanon’s leaders agree to postpone parliamentary elections

Two senior Lebanese officials said that Lebanon’s leaders have agreed on a plan to postpone the parliamentary elections scheduled for May and to extend parliament’s term by two years, following renewed clashes this week between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah amid escalating tensions across the Middle East.

The two officials said that the Lebanese president, the prime minister, and the speaker of parliament agreed on the move on Tuesday.

The decision still requires approval from a majority of Lebanon’s 128-member parliament.
