Lebanon says Beirut airport operating normally, denies reports of closure

Lebanon's Public Works and Transport Ministry has dismissed circulating reports about the closure of Rafic Hariri International Airport or the suspension of flights, confirming that operations are continuing as normal.

In a statement, the ministry said there is no decision to shut down the airport or halt air traffic, adding that claims about flight cancellations and risks to Lebanese airspace are inaccurate.

According to official data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, no new flight cancellations have been recorded. The ministry noted that 12 flights had operated by 8 a.m., indicating that air traffic is continuing within normal parameters.

It also rejected claims that Lebanese airspace is closed or being used for non-civilian purposes, describing such reports as entirely unfounded.

The ministry acknowledged a decline in the number of flights but said this reflects broader regional conditions affecting airports across the region, rather than a situation specific to Lebanon.

It added that it is closely monitoring operations in coordination with civil aviation authorities and security agencies at the airport to ensure its continued functioning as a vital link between Lebanon and the outside world.

The statement warned against the spread of misleading or inaccurate information, urging media outlets and the public to rely on official sources and exercise responsibility when sharing news.
