Egyptian Ambassador to LBCI: Aoun's initiative to pursue negotiations is a step in the 'right direction'

Egypt's ambassador to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, said any military conflict must ultimately end at the negotiating table, stressing that all parties involved in the ongoing Iran-Israel-U.S. war are seeking such an outcome.

In an interview with LBCI, Moussa suggested that Israel may not currently be interested in ending the war in Lebanon, describing the continuation of the conflict as potential "fuel" for future domestic elections linked to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He emphasized that progress in Lebanon requires parallel tracks, a domestic governmental process, a regional dimension involving Iran, and an international framework that provides guarantees, particularly regarding weapons control.

Moussa noted that internal divisions persist in Lebanon, with one camp viewing the country's primary role as confronting Israel, while another sees Lebanon as part of a broader axis where disarmament is central. He stressed, however, that the main objective should be state-building.

He described the initiative launched by President Joseph Aoun to pursue negotiations as a step in the right direction.

The ambassador also revealed that Egypt has put forward proposals to various parties for consideration once hostilities subside, noting that "the sound of weapons is currently louder than any political ideas," making it difficult for any side to engage in meaningful dialogue at this stage.
