Netanyahu says Israel is not referring to five positions in South Lebanon, but to a broader security zone

U.S. Vice President JD Vance held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following his departure from Islamabad, briefing him on developments in recent negotiations with Iran that ended without a deal earlier this week.

Netanyahu said Vance stressed that removing enriched materials and ensuring Iran does not proceed with uranium enrichment remain "fundamental issues."

The Israeli prime minister added that without joint action by Israel and the U.S. military, Iran would have been closer to producing a nuclear weapon.

He said coordination with Washington is ongoing daily, calling it unprecedented in Israel's history.

Turning to the situation in Lebanon, Netanyahu said fighting is ongoing, including continued clashes in the southern town of Bint Jbeil.

He added that Israel is not referring to the five positions in South Lebanon, but rather to a broader security zone aimed at removing what he described as "the threat of a Hezbollah incursion and rocket fire."
