Lebanon’s PM Salam welcomes Trump-announced ceasefire

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire, describing it as a key Lebanese demand that had been pursued since the beginning of the war.

In a post on X, Salam said the ceasefire was a central objective during Lebanon’s meetings in Washington.

He congratulated the Lebanese people on what he described as an achievement, while offering condolences for those killed and expressing solidarity with their families, the wounded, and those displaced from their towns and villages.

He said he hoped they would be able to return home as soon as possible.

Salam also thanked regional and international actors for their efforts to reach the agreement, singling out the United States, France, and European Union countries, as well as Arab states including Saudi Arabia and Egypt, in addition to Qatar and Jordan.
