US proposes Aoun–Netanyahu meeting to secure sovereignty and border guarantees for Lebanon: US Embassy in Beirut

The United States Embassy in Beirut said Lebanon is at a “crossroads,” urging its leadership to seize what it described as a historic opportunity to reclaim full sovereignty and shape the country’s future as an independent state.

In a statement, the embassy emphasized that direct engagement between Lebanon and Israel could mark the beginning of a national revival, arguing that the two neighboring countries “should have never been at war.”

The statement pointed to the extended cessation of hostilities, which it said was secured at the request of Donald Trump, as providing Lebanon with the necessary space to present its demands with the full attention of the US government.

According to the embassy, a direct meeting between Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—facilitated by Trump—could pave the way for concrete guarantees. These would include full sovereignty, territorial integrity, secure borders, humanitarian and reconstruction support, and the restoration of state authority across all Lebanese territory under U.S. guarantees.

The embassy concluded by saying that the moment “belongs to all Lebanese people,” adding that the United States stands ready to support Lebanon as it moves forward, stressing that “the time for hesitation is over.”
