US official: Trump believes direct Lebanon-Israel talks key to lasting peace

A U.S. State Department official stated that President Donald Trump believes direct communication between Lebanon and Israel is the most effective way to accelerate efforts toward a lasting peace agreement and security.

The official added that diplomatic efforts are ongoing, declining to comment on the details of current discussions with both sides.

He also accused Hezbollah of attempting to obstruct negotiations through attacks on Israel and threats within Lebanon.

The United States, he said, is working to create the necessary conditions and political momentum to move the process forward.
