New French ambassador to Lebanon vows continued support for Lebanese sovereignty

France’s newly appointed ambassador to Lebanon, Patrick Durel, said Tuesday that Paris remains committed to defending Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability.

The French Embassy in Beirut shared a message from Durel on X, in which he said he was honored to represent France in Lebanon.

“France was, is and will remain, yesterday, today and tomorrow, committed to defending Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity and stability,” Durel said.

He added that France would continue to stand in solidarity with the Lebanese people and expressed his happiness at meeting Lebanese people again and returning to Lebanon.

Durel’s appointment comes as France continues to play a key diplomatic role in efforts to support Lebanon’s stability and strengthen state institutions.
