Israel says it killed Basij Forces commander Gholam Reza Soleimani in Tehran

The Israeli army said it carried out a precision airstrike in Tehran, killing Gholam Reza Soleimani, the commander of the Basij.

In a statement, Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said the strike was conducted with precise intelligence guidance from military intelligence and targeted Soleimani in the middle of the Iranian capital.

He said the Basij is part of Iran's armed forces and has played a central role in suppressing internal protests, particularly during recent unrest, using what he described as widespread arrests and force against civilian demonstrators.

Adraee added that the killing of Soleimani is part of a broader campaign targeting senior figures within Iran's military establishment, describing it as a significant blow to the country's command-and-control systems.

He said Israeli forces would continue operations against what he described as leaders of the Iranian system.
