Russian Envoy: Mojtaba Khamenei in Iran but avoiding public appearances

Russian media outlet RTVI reported on Tuesday, citing Russia’s ambassador to Iran, that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in the country but is refraining from public appearances “for understandable reasons.”

The United States has previously stated that it believes Mojtaba was injured and may have suffered disfigurement.

Russia maintains close ties with Iran, which signed a strategic partnership treaty with Moscow last year.
