Pope Leo to visit Italy's Lampedusa island in July: Vatican

Pope Leo XIV will visit the Italian island of Lampedusa this summer, a landing point for migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa, the Vatican announced Thursday.

The U.S. pontiff -- whose predecessor, Francis, chose Lampedusa for his first official visit in July 2013 -- will visit the island on July 4.
