Putin offers Victory Day ceasefire in Ukraine on May 9: Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday offered a ceasefire in the fighting in Ukraine on May 9, when Russia celebrates the Soviet Union's WWII victory over Nazi Germany, the Kremlin said.

In his phone call with U.S. counterpart Donald Trump, Putin said he was ready "to declare a ceasefire for the duration of Victory Day celebrations," his diplomatic advisor Yuri Ushakov told reporters.

"Trump actively supported this initiative, noting that the holiday marks our shared victory."
