Lebanon revokes accreditation of Iran's appointed ambassador, orders departure by March 29

Lebanon has withdrawn its approval for Iran's designated ambassador and ordered him to leave the country by Sunday, March 29, 2026, in a move signaling heightened diplomatic tensions with Iran.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants summoned Iran's chargé d'affaires in Beirut, Toufic Samadi, where he met with the ministry's secretary-general, Ambassador Abdel Sattar Issa.

During the meeting, Lebanese officials informed him of the decision to revoke the accreditation of Iran's appointed ambassador, Mohammad Reza Sheibani, declaring him persona non grata and requesting his departure from Lebanese territory within the specified deadline.

In parallel, Lebanon recalled its ambassador to Iran, Ahmad Sweidan, for consultations.

The move comes against what Lebanese authorities described as a breach by Tehran of diplomatic norms and established protocols governing relations between the two countries.
