Lebanon education minister eyes continuity as official exams planned as scheduled

Education Minister Rima Karami said the government’s primary objective is to salvage the academic year, outlining a flexible approach to ensure continuity in learning amid ongoing challenges.

In remarks to LBCI, Karami said the ministry has adopted a gradual strategy, allowing schools capable of continuing in-person education to do so, while granting private institutions flexibility in decision-making.

On official exams, she noted that the current direction is to proceed with planning as if they will take place on schedule, while remaining open to reassessment should any emergency arise.

Addressing schools located in areas exposed to shelling, Karami said they account for around 22% of all schools nationwide.

She added that the ministry recently held a meeting with school principals for consultations and was surprised to learn that some of these schools had already shifted to remote learning without prior instruction. A survey will be launched to assess the conditions of both students and teachers, she said.
