Suspected food poisoning cases reported in schools and shelters, investigation underway

Lebanese authorities have reported a number of suspected food poisoning cases in several schools and displacement shelters, prompting an urgent investigation into the source of contamination.

In a statement, officials said initial data indicate that most cases are mild, with symptoms largely limited to diarrhea and abdominal pain, and that no serious complications have been recorded so far. Some cases among elderly individuals have required medical intervention to restore fluid volume, though none have required hospitalization at this stage.

Health teams have been deployed on the ground in coordination with primary healthcare centers and relevant authorities, providing necessary treatment and ensuring proper medical follow-up for those affected.

Authorities are also working to trace food sources, expanding the probe to include inspections of the kitchen responsible for preparing meals. Samples have been collected for laboratory testing to identify the potential source of contamination.

Officials stressed that the issue is being treated with the utmost seriousness, with the results of the investigation and tests to be announced once completed, alongside measures to prevent similar incidents and ensure food safety.
