Uncertainty remains over Lebanon’s inclusion in US-Iran ceasefire agreement, sources tell LBCI

Official sources told LBCI that the Lebanese government has not received any confirmation regarding whether Lebanon is included in the ceasefire announced early Wednesday between the United States and Iran.

Sources said Lebanese authorities have been in contact with international, European, and Arab parties concerned about Lebanon’s situation, particularly Washington. They stressed that Lebanon negotiates directly on its own behalf regarding any conflict with Israel, and that no other negotiations concerning Lebanon are considered valid or binding.

The officials emphasized that the Lebanese state will engage in talks only to address the causes of the March 2 conflict and to reach an agreement that ensures lasting stability between the two countries.

According to the sources , Iran has indicated that Lebanon is included in the ceasefire, as stated by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Hezbollah, but Baabda has not received any formal communication from the United States regarding Lebanon’s status. 

President Joseph Aoun continues diplomatic contacts to clarify the matter, reaffirming that the Lebanese state alone negotiates on behalf of the country.

Sources close to the matter did not rule out a trilateral meeting in the coming hours to assess the situation and coordinate Lebanon’s position, depending on whether it is confirmed to be part of the ceasefire agreement.
