UNIFIL: Israeli army halted convoy near Naqoura, raising concerns over access and supplies

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said that a routine convoy transporting military and civilian peacekeepers, along with essential contractors, from Beirut to its headquarters was halted by the Israeli army a few kilometers from its destination in Naqoura.

In a statement, UNIFIL said that U.N.-marked vehicles were eventually allowed to proceed, while local contractors were required to return to Beirut under security arrangements, despite the convoy having been fully deconflicted in advance, including their presence.

UNIFIL noted that this was not an isolated incident, adding that similar restrictions—through physical roadblocks or the reversal of prior clearances—have affected both peacekeepers and the essential personnel who support them.

The mission warned that such actions raise concerns regarding the timely delivery of critical supplies, including food, fuel, and water, to its positions, particularly along the Blue Line.

It added that while these challenges have been managed so far, continued limitations on movement risk undermine the sustainment of operations, including the ability of peacekeepers to carry out their mandated reporting on violations of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701.

UNIFIL reiterated its call on the Israeli army to honor agreed arrangements and to uphold its obligations to ensure the safety and security of peacekeepers, as well as the freedom of movement of all its patrols and logistical convoys.
