Lebanon's Public Works Minister to LBCI: Reconstruction efforts take shape

Lebanon's Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny said the ministry has proposed funding the expansion of the Jounieh highway from its own budget, noting that the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) is currently revising the project's technical aspects.

In remarks to LBCI, Rasamny said the necessary funds had already been secured before the current war.

He added that the ministry does not yet have an estimated cost for the war-related damage, stressing that it is awaiting a final ceasefire before engaging with international donors and grant providers.

On infrastructure priorities, Rasamny said efforts are focused first on clearing debris from key roads connecting villages, followed by installing temporary and permanent culverts, and later conducting full studies for the reconstruction of destroyed bridges.

He confirmed the full reopening of the Qasmiyeh Bridge and the resumption of operations at facilities in Borj Rahhal.

Rasamny also hinted at upcoming developments regarding Qlayaat Airport, saying that "good news" will be announced soon.

He emphasized that recent measures allowing passage over non-qualified bridges were taken as a precaution to protect civilians.
