Labor minister condemns Israeli attack on Lebanese Civil Defense personnel, calls for international accountability

Lebanon’s Labor Minister Mohamad Haidar condemned what he described as a “heinous crime” committed by Israel after Lebanese Civil Defense personnel were targeted while carrying out rescue and emergency missions, resulting in several people being killed and wounded.

In a statement, Haidar said the attack constituted a clear violation of international laws and conventions protecting humanitarian and emergency teams during their duties.

Ahead of Labor Day, he said rescuers represent “the noblest form of work” through saving lives and helping the injured, stressing that paramedics heading into danger carry only a humanitarian mission and sacrifice themselves for their country.

He added that targeting emergency workers while performing their duties is not only a crime against Lebanon but also against humanity, describing it as an attempt to undermine Lebanese resilience and solidarity.

Haidar offered condolences to the families of those killed and to their colleagues in the Civil Defense, saying their sacrifices would remain “a badge of honor” for the country.

He also called on the international community and humanitarian and rights organizations to take responsibility, stop repeated attacks, and hold those responsible accountable under international law.
