Lebanon Social Affairs Minister says Sports City shelter secured by army and equipped with essential services

Lebanese Social Affairs Minister Haneen Sayyed called on displaced families currently staying in the Biel area of Beirut to relocate to the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium shelter, saying the facility offers better living conditions and essential services.

“We call on our people in Biel to come to Sports City,” she said, adding that those opposing the move “are objecting without having the full facts” and should see that “this place is better for them and for their children.”

Sayyed also said the Lebanese Army would be responsible for securing the facility, describing that as reassuring for residents.

She added that essential services, including food, medical care and sanitary facilities, are available at the shelter.
