Lebanese army intelligence arrests man over alleged sectarian incitement and insults to religious and state figures

Lebanon’s Army Command – Orientation Directorate announced the arrest of a citizen identified as (A.S.) by the Intelligence Directorate on May 6, 2026.

In a statement, the army said the suspect was detained for publishing an image and written content deemed insulting to a religious figure and several state symbols, as well as for inciting sectarian tensions on social media on May 1 and 2, 2026.

The incidents were reportedly linked to a video broadcast by a television station.

The statement added that an investigation has been launched under the supervision of the competent judiciary.
