President Aoun to CNN: We have a great opportunity to end hostilities between Lebanon and Israel

Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun said there is “a great opportunity” to end the state of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel, in an interview with CNN.

Aoun said he is not in direct contact with Hezbollah, noting that communication takes place through Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, whom he described as aligned with ongoing negotiations. He added that Berri is “fed up with this war” and the destruction in southern Lebanon.

He also said that the Iranian ambassador in Lebanon is “a normal resident with no diplomatic capacity.”

Aoun further stated that even within the Shiite community, there is growing exhaustion with the situation, saying: “They told me we are with you, we are fed up, we need your help.” He added that he had met many people from southern Lebanon who expressed similar sentiments, saying they are “tired of the war and its consequences.”
